FAQ

General

DeepMeta is client software, running on both Windows and MacOS computers. Linux is not supported. Check out the Download page section for supported OS versions.

DeepMeta is a portfolio management tool for contributors, tightly integrated with iStockphoto and Getty Images. It is the official tool, provided by Getty Images for free to its contributors, both exclusive and non-exclusive.

DeepMeta allows you to maintain a local library of files on your PC/Mac (images, illustrations, videos, ...), which make up your stock portfolio. Using a native application provides a rich and streamlined user interface for keywording your artwork and preparing it for upload. You can prepare your new files in DeepMeta and these will uploaded in batch to Getty Images or iStockphoto.

There are also an extensive range of statistics and tools to help you with your workflow.

Note: DeepMeta is not meant for Getty Images or iStockphoto customers. It is not a DAM (Digital Asset Manager) for buyers of stock images.

Model & property releases

When you hover your cursor over the triangle, the nature of the error will show. In this case, most likely: "One or more releases have incomplete information".

Just double-click the release in the list to bring up its edit window. Model releases need to have a "Date of Birth" set. Enter the date and click OK (the other fields are optional): the red triangle will go away, once you've done this for all affected model releases.

Local data

DeepMeta uses a local database to store a copy of all data retrieved from the Getty Images server for your account, as well as any local changes you make to your files. The only reason you'd ever want to clear this database is in cases where it may have become corrupt. If you think this is the case, contact support and we'll evaluate.

To clear the local database: in the DeepMeta "Preferences" window, select the "Advanced" tab. Then click the link/button "Clear local DeepMeta database" in the "System Info" section, and confirm.

IMPORTANT: By clearing the database, you lose any local changes you've done in DeepMeta, along with Model/Property release data, not-yet-uploaded files, etc.

After clearing the database, start a Sync, which will re-fetch your data from the Getty Images server.

Briefs

Yes and yes. DeepMeta has extensive support for briefs. Just sync them in and you can use sorting and searching to find the perfect briefs for you. Click 'Create Batch' to start uploading for the brief. For Custom Content briefs you can even follow the client selection process in the File preview pane for files in the brief.

Keywording

In DeepMeta "Preferences | General", you can set 2 different languages:

  • Keywording language: used for keywording only. It determines the language of the Getty Controlled Vocabulary used.
  • DeepMeta language: determines the user interface language of DeepMeta

DeepMeta keeps a cache of all keywords you've used before in your files. These are stored in the keywording language active when adding the keywords. If you later switch to a different keywording language, the stored keywords remain in their original language. This can result in a mix of languages in the keyword suggestions.

To avoid this, it's best to stick to one single language for keywording.

The current official information from Getty Images is that the order of keywords is not relevant. The order of keywords on the customer facing istockphoto.com and gettyimages.com sites is determined by which keywords have led to an interaction or sale for the file.

If/when this situation/policy changes, We'll add sorting and/or reordering functionality.

Login & access

This error literally means what it says. The Getty Images server does not allow you to create a batch of the type you specified ("Image", "Illustrations", "Video" or "Editorial Image").

In other words, you have no upload rights for that type of files. If you had access to create such batch before, it could be that your access rights have been revoked by Getty Images.

If you believe you should be able to upload such type of files, go to the Getty contributor site and see if you can create a batch of that type there. If not, contact Getty Support and ask for clarification.
