Images tab-page, image list
- W7. Better filtering
- StanRohrer:
Extended filtering, such as "car or corvette", "rose not red",...
- Thomas_EyeDesign:
A nice feature to have in DeepMeta would be the ability to search the image database using more than one search criterion.
What I am thinking of is something more like the Find function in Lightroom. I would like the ability to search the image keyword database for images
that do not contain a keyword.
In Lightroom I can pick a number of search criterion such as Containing, Not Containing, Contains Any, Contains All, or Doesn’t Contain.
I would think this would be very useful in updating and refining keywords.
- attator:
Is it possible to filter by model release? thanks!
- lucato:
The FILTER could have a 2 checkboxes or a dropdown list like "Main Tag" and "Sub Tags".
So, when I filter I would get the results just from the main tags (Bold ones) instead of getting also the results from the sub tags.
So if I type "medicine" and check the "Maint Tag", it will show me just the results that has the main tag (bold) as "medicine" instead
of showing also the results that has "Healthcare and Medicine" sub tag. I'm not sure if we call sub tags or terms. I think they are TAG and TERMS.
- lucato:
When we filter by a text, maybe DM would have two checkboxes: [ ] Keep ToUpload [ ] Keep ToEdit.
So when I filter a keyword, I would check for example "[X] Keep ToEdit" and in the filter results I would work with
the filtered files plus the "Toupload" status files. The same would happen for "ToUpload" checked or both checked together.
OR forget these 2 checkboxes and make DM as defaul show both in the filter results OR in the menu 'Options' put a way to set if we want:
- [ ] Filter results shows all "ToUpload and ToEdit"
- [ ] Filter results shows all "ToEdit"
- [ ] Filter results "Hide both"
- Lingbeek:
I would like to have that option as well. I often add files without any keywords and do a search to find a file that looks close
to be able to do some copy and paste work. It would be really handy to be able to keep those files listed with a search selection.
I would use such an option a lot as well.
- lucato:
After using a filter, when I click on "X" to clean the filter, I'd like that DM would move the image grid list to the 1st image
we have sorted. For example: if I've sorted by Status and it shows all "ToEdit" first, after I click on "X" to clean the filter it
would move/select the 'st image in the list. Like if I had pressed HOME/Ctrl+HOME.
Besides that, after clicking on filter button, it should show the list from the beginning too.
I mean, if my image grid is in the middle (scrolled down), after clicking on filter, it doesn't start from the top.
- lucato:
I'd like to have a shortcut "Ctrl+F" and the cursor goes to the input filter field, so I can type the keyword and enter to filter
- lucato:
At the Images tab, in the "Show with status:" insted of checkboxes DM would have a dropdown list where we would pick JUST ONE of the status or by holding CTRL we would get to select TWO or MORE options to filter the grid:
Active, All, Deactivated, Pending, Purged, Rejected, ToEdit, ToUpload.
- sjlocke:
I'd like a way to display images on the image page from a certain time period.
I have thousands of files, and I'd like to maybe just display the last month or two for easier scrolling.
On the image tab, I have 6000 lines listing image data. It is hard to scroll all the way up and down, especially when I filter the list and then
remove the filter and it jumps back to the top. I'd like a way to just diplay image data for images uploaded in the last month, for example.
- Franky:
The filter options will be enhanced in future versions, so that you can select to search in one or more of the following:
- "Title"
- "Description"
- "Description"
- "keywords (tags)", in this example: "tweezer"
- "terms", in this example: "Eyebrow Tweezers"
- "term parent names", in this example: "Toiletries"
- "Original file name"
- W17. Different list views
- lucato:
A new tab like "image tab" or a new button into "image tab" called for example "Details 2".
Once I click on it, it would show a list of images just with the columns: thumbnail | tittle | description | allow print | keywords | categories | release.
Let's suppose I got 10 images in the new/queue box at istock tab. Before I start to upload I feel that I forgot to check some allow print for example or other,
how to check it? Now a days I need to open up (edit) 1 by 1 to check it.
With this suggestion, I would check this "Details 2" to see at once if some image is missing something in the description, allow print,
keyword and so on instead of have to open up one by one. Each image/line would accept to click twice or RMB to edit it.
- Franky:
I think this will be possible by adding a few layout-preset buttons for the Image list. For each of them, you could choose yourself what columns and filter they select. That way, you could easily switch between presets by clicking the appropriate button.
A bit like the "Workspaces" in Adobe bridge and similar programs.
- W19. Choice in side panel location
- lucato:
Have an option to put the side panel on Image Window at Top, Left or Bottom, instead of at Right. Double click on splitter bar to hide it (or similar).
This would allow more list real estate for people who want to see many columns in the list.
- W23. Rename columns
- lucato:
Column suggestions: It would be interesting if we could rename the columns.
- W29. Bring selected row into view
- lucato:
I'd like to click twice on the large preview, and it scrolls automatically to the image row. Let me try to explain it better.
If DM is sorted by Categories and I'll edit all with 0, after editing it and if it has 5 categories,
the image will move some way down and I don't get to right click to send the update.
So, I need to scrool and try to find the image. As it keeps the large preview image, I would click twice to get there.
Or, you would add in the edit/details window a button send update, where it would automatically give the OK, SEND the data and CLOSE the detail window.
- W39. Edit checkboxes from the image list
- lucato:
It would be cool if I would get to check the 'Allow extended linces' and 'allow prints' from the checkboxes that shows in the list
(inserted column in the image tab) instead of just from the Details page. So, I would check them (black) from there and send to iStock.
It would be much easier to check all missing from there than having to open up each image, mark it in the details page and click ok.
- W51. Copy image ID to clipboard
- isoft:
How I copy an image ID in deepmeta? I need this ability to add a new image to a Lightbox.
- Franky: as Lucato suggested, it could be an option to select multiple images and copy all their IDs,
separated by commas. On the other hand, I do intend to add lightbox support to DeepMeta, so that might make things even easier.
- W57. See Keywords under review state
- StanRohrer:
I see some of my photos have "Keywords Under Review" on the iStock site. Is it possible for DeepMeta to flag these?
That way I could review reported problems (and hopefully make fixes to reduce the review load on the admins).
- Franky: No info is not available from iStock API.
- W59. Show image size
- lucato:
Maybe DM would have a new column "Size" where it would show the size of the image (pixels x pixels) or show it in the large preview window.
- Franky:
The API does not specify the exact size (unfortunately), but it does specify in what sizes the image is available, e.g.:
- file size="XSmall" width="425" height="282" bytes="183674" credits="1"
- file size="Small" width="849" height="565" bytes="577368" credits="3"
- file size="Medium" width="1697" height="1131" bytes="1821984" credits="5"
- file size="Large" width="2715" height="1810" bytes="4281426" credits="10"
- file size="XLarge" width="4200" height="2801" bytes="8568129" credits="15"
This means that the size is known: the largest dimensions of the list.
- theasis:
When you load an image into DM a message says the image pixel size and the istock size category.
Once it's been loaded, can that information be seen again later? In particular, I'd like to be able to see it on the General tab of the Details window.
I upload a reasonable number of stitched panoramas and always try to include a note to the inspector that it is stitched rather than upsampled.
But because I'm a bear of little brain I can't always remember which are the stitched images. An indication of the image size would save me from myself!
- W77. Detailed sales stats per file
- Dvorjakusan:
Is it possible to show a breakdown of the sizes of each image and in total that have been downloaded, rather than just the total number of downloads.
I'd like to be able to click on an image to to see how many XS/S/M/L/XL etc have been downloaded and also to see the breakdown of image sizes downloaded.
- sjlocke:
Does DM show trends? ie, is there a way to see an image's performance over time, or a general way to see what images are declining or improving?
- W32. Show Extended Licenses
- thyme:
I don't know if this has been asked before, but is it possible to have EL's shown somewhere either as a column or a separate tab?
- Franky:
No. EL info is not available from iStock API.
- W68. Dollar bin status
- StanRohrer:
It would be nice to have some indication of images in the dollar bin. Perhaps a dollar sign next to the image number or a shaded box corner would do.
Perhaps a separate column would allow sorting for better use.
This would be helpful when I'm updating image status in my personal database.
What happens at iStock is the images going to the dollar bin are reported with an Email. But when images are dropped from the dollar bin there is no response.
So to keep track of images I have active on sale I have to figure out which images got dropped from the bin.
Currently I have about 30 images in the dollar bin so it is a slight chore.
- Franky:
I have requested this info to be available in the iStock API, and am glad to report that it has been added on Dec 18, 2009.
A future version of DeepMeta will report the Dollar bin status.
DeepMeta does have an internal database field "LastChangeDate", which I could make available in the image list. This may be of help in the meantime.
- Lingbeek:
I do have some images active in the dollar bin and I do have some deactivated dollar bin images. In Deepmeta the active dollar images show up as active and the deactivated dollar images show up as deactivated. The downloads counter still of active dollar images still updates after doing a fetch on the file.
So although deepmeta does not show the file's dollar status the active or deactivated is still correct and as far as I am concerned that is the only thing DM should need to do.
- W70. Hierarchical sort
- olandesina:
Would be possible to have a sort of hierarchical sorting option. I mean like "sort by this" and "then by this".
I would see it useful when looking at which images from a serie are more successful.
In this way I could sort for upload date and then by downloads or views.
- W80. Copy & paste in Image Details window
- lucato:
It would help if the copy/paste options would be present and work at the edit window.
Sometimes I get the columns sorted in a specific way and after editing an image it goes to other place/order and I don't get to copy the data from that edited image.
- W84. Preview panel showing keywords
- RollingEarth:
It would be great to have a list of the keywords attributed to a file in the images tab under the thumbnail and description on the right.
In this way, we could scroll down the list and quickly check the keywords on a file.
- lostinbids:
The reason I want to be able to see the keywords is because I manage my images (banners in descriptions) by searches rather than lightboxes.
This way when I scroll though my images I can easily check that each image has the correct keyword to include it in the UBB searches.
- W86. Add personal notes to files
- theasis:
I find DM really useful for browsing my portfolio using the filter on the Images tab.
I was using it tonight to note in a notebook some locations that I'd like to reshoot in certain weather conditions.
It would be really nice if, instead of using a notebook, I could just add notes to the image in DM - notes that are just stored locally.
Extra value if I can also add tags to the notes that I can then filter on. Doubly good if I can add multiple notes to any image (e.g. if I want to
note that this picture would be good reshot with a blue sky, that I need to rework the keywords, that I should try shooting the same building from the other side,
that the way I processed this looks really good and I should consider it for other photos of other places, etc, etc).
- Leadinglights:
Can I add another vote for this wish? I would find it useful to be able to put a sortable tag on to an image for personal use indicating which country
I shot it in or which shoot it came from.
-
Franky:
I have the feeling that you'll be able to use the upcoming "Series" feature for this: put all files that you want to group somehow in a Series.
- W88. New column suggestions
- theasis:
On the main images tab I'd be interested to see a couple more options for columns and/or changes to some of the existing columns.
Views, Downloads and Dollars per month are good to see how an item has performed, but not to see how it's currently performing.
I think useful additions would be View, DL and $$ over the previous 30 days. Or possibly as an alternative,
tint the Vw/Month DL/Month $$/Month column red or green if the current month is performing above or below the average.
That would allow us to note when an image picks up interest or starts to fade from view.
-
Franky:
I agree that would be a great addition. Unfortunately, this would require info about individual images for individual dates, but ths info is not available from the iStock API.
- W92. Add a Resubmit column
- Franky:
Can we have a resubmit column in the image list?
-
Franky:
There used to be one in DeepMeta, but apparently the iStock API marks ALL images as "resubmit". The bug has been reported to iStock, and until
it is fixed, the column has been removed from DeepMeta.
- W95. New column with ordinal number within sorted result set
- kycstudio:
It would be nice to have an ordinal number as the first column that reflects the position of the file in the sort order selected.
This is useful to have a number to see if a specific file goes up or down in sales or to have a quick feedback while you are looking something
in the middle of the portfolio. I usually sort by dwlds/mont and it would be nice wich one is in the 50th place and which one in the 53rd.
- W96. Export data as CSV or similar
- kycstudio:
It would be great to have the option to export the DeepMeta data as a csv or something to open in calc or excel. To make our own calculations.
Also: download keywords and descriptions as txt, rft or csv, file to have a backup.
- W97. Color coding of rows depending on file data
- kycstudio:
It would be nice to color the background cells based on a certain criteria, for example if I am viewing my files ordered by monthly
downloads it would be useful to have the cells colored by groups of ten for example the ones that sell from 10 -20 dwnlds a month with gray,
then 20-30 in yellow, etc.
- W98. View all ratings for 1 file
- lucato:
In the Image tab, when we RMB over one image, in the contextual menu we would have the option "View Ratings & Commentings", so when I pick it,
it would only show all ratings and comments from this image in the tab Ratings and comments.
- W101. Counts shown for 4 file types
- lucato:
Now you have the column, TYPE (Image, Vector, Flash, Video, Audio) maybe you can count each type, so in the image tab where you have the info "XXXX images shown",
maybe you would show: xxxx images, xxxx illustrations, xxxx Flash, xxxx Video, xxxx Audio. Total of files = XXXXX.
- W105. Legend for all status values
- roomauction:
A legend of status options would be nice, most are clear, but newbies would appretiate (what that 'purged' means in this case?)
- W107. View subscription sales data
- thyme:
Are we going to see a separate column for subscription sales?
It would be nice to know which images were sold as subscription separately to normal sales.
- W111. Show sRGB files in correct colorspace
- sjlocke:
It would be nice if the image display could display aRGB files in the right colorspace.
- W114. Don't show 4 Audio 'sizes' as a type
- lucato:
IMO and I'm not sure if I'm wrong, but these 4 types you've mentioned should not fit as a TYPE column into DM, they're like an image size (small, large, medium,...),
like different prices, so the TYPE would be just Audio into DM. Maybe these (Simple sample, complex sample, small, large, XL...) info should belong to another column.
- Franky:
I agree that they're equivalent to an image size. Like I said, I'm not fond of the choice that iStock made here.
For the very reason you mention, I'm already "hiding" this in the top "Show types" check boxes, where I have put all 4 under the label "Audio".
You are right that I could go further and "hide" these 4 types as just "Audio" in the Type column. I didn't want to do this yet,
because I don't have a "subtype" or "size" or similar column yet, and also, who knows iStock might change this before release of the audio.
I'll be waiting a little bit here for things to settle.
- W119. Turn "Totals" header on by default and add a Toggle on/off option
- Whiteway:
I wonder if this Totals header should be shown, as a default? It might answer most of your users' requests for more stats!
It's really useful to put in a keyword and find that a certain subject has (for example) 5% of your total views, but is responsible for only 1%
of your downloads. Or, that your favourite subject that you've been photographing for two years has brought you a total income of $1.75.
- lucato:
Have the option to toggle the Header visible/not-visible, through the right hand click popup menu, or a function key "H" or "F2".
- W130. New column "shot date / date image taken"
- olandesina:
An alternative would be to be able to sort by shot date.
-
Franky:
I would have to extract that info from the exif data, which is sometimes not available.
I'll have a look at some files and see how probable it is to find that info. Nice idea. Thanks.
- W125. Recognize EXIF rotation when adding images
- dansenie:
One thing that would help my workflow a lot is if the software recognized the coding within the EXIF data for vertical vs. horizontal shot,
and rotated before upload to iStock. An alternative would be a way to rotate explicitly before sending. I shoot a lot of stuff in vertical orientation.
I've had to rotate and save a copy every time I send a picture to iStock (using their web site uploader).
I'd love to see some automation in this area, as it'd save me a ton of time.
Some programs, such as ThumbsPlus (www.cerious.com) notice the orientation and properly display. Others, such as the stuff built into Windows XP fail to do so.
Clearly there's data present to indicate orientation.
- W122. Filter selected images
- olandesina:
What about adding a "filter selected images" option. One could select several images and then hit the button.
In this way you could get a clear view on how are several images in your portfolio doing in one screen.
- W134. Option to jump-to and select file with given ID
- lucato:
If I type the ID# in the 'Filter' tool, it would select/jump to the ID# image instead of filtering this only image.
- lucato:
I’d like that DM would just jump/select to the ID# as I had suggested.
I’m asking that because sometimes I want to work on the nearest images ID#s.
- Franky:
The option to "filter" by fileID was implemented in v1.2 Beta 1 (Item W82).
This new wishlist item is for an option to leave the filter set as is, but to just select + jump to that particular file.
- W132. Invoke Keyword optimize for selected images
- Lingbeek:
Regarding the "optimize keywords" functionality: there is a way in which it can be improved a lot.
Could you add it to the right click possibilities when editting multiple files?
So I can select all of my images with 50 keywords and optimize all of them at the same time?
- W133. Add a Select column (bookmark) to the image list
- lucato:
A “select” checkbox column to get to selected images. Like the “Changed” status column, but checkboxes would be selectable (checked/unchecked) by users.
Why?
- Now a days we can select a group of images by holding SHIFT or CONTROL, but the problem here is if I click on other place,
it will unselect all my selection. So, it would be a way to avoid that. This way of selecting by using SHIFT and CONTROL would
keep to get to check and uncheck this checkboxes column.
-
I would check the images, do other stuff, and later do what I want to do with the selected/checked images.
One example of using it:
Let’s suppose I got a bunch of sitemails of changed tags, so with the new ID# finder feature (W82) I would type the ID#,
select this checkbox, find other ID#, select the other checkbox, and so on...
When I have all done I would right click and “Fetch from iStockphoto”.
So, in the actual way DM selects images (Shift or Ctrl) it isn’t possible achieve because once I’ve type the ID# on the
input filter it will unselect all other selections.
- Franky:
Yes, this could work as a set of "Bookmarks" that you put on files, in order to find them more easily or to launch operations on all marked files.
Similar to selected files, but the bookmarks would stay until you change them. File selections are much more volatile.
- W143. Multiple/split list views
- sjlocke:
Sometimes I want to copy stuff from old images to new images, but the old images are way up in the middle of the list.
So I have to scroll up, find the one I want, scroll back down, paste it, scroll back up, search around to find the area I was in, copy, go back down...
It would be nice if you could get two views of the image list that you could copy and paste across. Or a marker. Something.
- Franky:
This would be one possible approach to make copying data easier. W133 - Add a Select column to the image list would
be an alternative way. A bit like keeping one or more "Bookmarks" to files. All related suggestions will be evaluated.
- W154. More features on the Copy & Paste window
- lucato:
1. DM would have an option in the preferences to choose between small or large thumbnail preview in the paste window.
So, if I check LARGE, I would see the big image preview in the paste window for the "Copy FROM:" and "TO" images.
Maybe instead of an option in the preferences, we would have a swap/shift button in the Paste window to change between large and small previews.
2. Or better than that. Instead of having that large preview we would have a COMPARE button.
So when we hit it, it would open a new pop-op or expand down the actual one ( like 'more options' button and show the large preview image
and we would have a SWAP button where it would change between the FROM and TO images, but not side-by-side and one over oder as it was
a layer on/off when hitting the SWAP button.
Images tab-page, image linking
- W35. Add common text to linked images
- Chronistin:
Regarding image linking:
- It would be great if we also could add common text to multiple selected images (as in: "for more photos like this, please visit my xyz lightbox")
- Not sure if this can be done technically, but when images are linked to each other, would it be possible to show the linked thumbnails instead
of the text in the right pane? This would be great for a quick "what links where" overview.
- jsnover:
My links in the description field of my images are to a lightbox, using the thumb of one or more iStock images.
Is there any way to automate that type of linking with DM? I guess I could always edit the UBB afterwards and replace the image links with lightbox links,
but it'd be nice to be able to optionally specify where I want the link to go.
- Franky:
Thumbs are already shown in the preview pane of the image list. I could also add it to the Image Details panel.
- W36. More info before image linking
- lucato:
More information on Image Linking panel, when images were selected, which are still pending. These will not participate in the Image linking,
but this is not clearly stated.
Instead the crypic mesage is shown: "Imagelink tags will be added to the descripion field 0 of the 3 images. Proceed?".
- theasis:
When selecting multiple images for linking it would be nice to have something to indicate:
- How many characters of text will be added to the descriptions when the links are created
- how close to 2000 characters is the size of the links + the size of the longest selected description
- W52. Configure image linking & Description editing
- Perdix:
I would like to suggest that in the "image link" code, provision is made for having the linked image open in a new window.
This is how I manually coded my linked images to date, and having this option in DM would be great.
- manley620:
I would love it if we could change the UBB thumbnail links to image size 4 instead of 1.
- hatman12:
My one observation so far is this: when DM is used to create 'similar images' links (to display thumbnails in the description box) the images
appear immediately under the description text without any line break; this is different to the example shown on the DM web site which shows a nice line of text
saying something like 'related images'. It would be great to have that 'related images' text inserted automatically, or at the very least a couple of line breaks
between the description text and the subsequent thumbnail links.
- lucato:
With a range of selected images I'd like to be able to ADD texts in description field without replacing the previous texts.
Let's suppose I need to add a new link to a new lighbox/banner or other new text information in 10 images.
Now a day I don't get to do it. When I use copy & paste, DM replaces the texts and I'd like to add a text instead of exchinging them.
Maybe when pasting only description, DM would have also the option [] Overwrite for description.
- W67. One-way linking
- Chronistin, Chronistin:
One thought I had about the image linking, it would be great to have an option for "one way"-linking. If a new image is uploaded, I might want to add links to some similar images without the old images getting interlinked among themselves (because they have already been interlinked, painfully by hand).
I think the picture page looks good only if it has a certain symmetry - 3 images side by side, or six in 2 rows, make it look much better than a random number of thumbnails.
- Mlenny:
As far as I saw I can only choose e.g. 3-4-5-x images and cross-link them together...
Is there a way that i can choose. e.g. 6 images and add those images to a 7th file ?
I think this could be useful if you already have a lot of cross-links and you like to add crosslinks to older files without changing the
crosslinks for all selected files.
- W90. Verify validity of existing keyword links in description
- theasis:
How much trouble would it be to parse all the image descriptions looking for image links and to flag all those that link to images that are no longer active?
I'm guessing that DM does most of the parsing work already to avoid making multiple links to the same image from one description.
Having a warning that a link points to an inactive image would be particularly useful when active images move to the dollar bin and eventually automatically
go inactive
- Franky:
Additionnally, DeepMeta could also check all the external (foreign) links found in the descriptions.
- W93. Insert image links at top of description
- JBryson:
I want to suggest an option that when you "link" images, the code goes to the TOP of the description field instead of the bottom.
I program my lightboxes into the description before uploading. Since you can't link until after the image has been accepted,
it would be nice to add the link information above what I have already added as lightbox links.
Image details - General
- W44. Descriptions database
- lucato 2, lucato:
DM would have a Descriptions Database tab for storing different descriptions.
In this tab I would create several descriptions and give each one a different name and I would call them later from the descriptions input field.
Well, let's suppose I store one description and give it a name as 'Description 1". After doing that, when I'm adding new image and I'm in the
decription input field (Details page), I would click right mouse button and get a contextual menu showing all names of all created "descriptions".
So, in this example if I click RMB it would show "Description 1" and I would select it and it would paste its content in the input field.
A lot of members use the description area to show banners that link to their lightboxes. So, the Descriptions Database tab for storing different
descriptions would be very useful for this case too. I mean, I would store one description called "Valentine's day" containing the link to
my banner/lighbox+description, other as "3D illustrations", and so on. So, in the "Description Database tab" I would create several descriptions
and give each one a different name and I would call them later from the descriptions input field in the Edit window.
From the description input field I would click right mouse button and get a contextual menu showing all names of all created "descriptions"
or have a dropdown list to pick it up. After picking it, it will paste the content of the description I've created.
- Franky:
This would probably be a good option to think about when "Series" are implemented. The Series record could act as the place where to store this description info.
- W58. Bigger thumbnail in ImageDetails General panel
- lucato:
Image Details: The General tab would show the bigger thumbnail on the right side of the description field.
-
Mlenny:
A option to have larger thumbnails. i work on a 30" Monitor at a very high resolution, when i like to keyword i sometimes miss to see the image larger
to see some details to describe the image more easily... this could be an optional thumbnail size setting in the preferences imho..
- W62. Prev/Next buttons on the Image details dialog.
- lucato:
Would be interesting if I would move to the next image or previous by using left/right arrows or Page-up/Down keys when in the edit window (Details).
Let's suppose I'm just checking some descriptions texts to fix some stuffs, if the description is OK I would move to the next one without needing to close the edit
window and openng again for the other image.
-
lucato:
It would be cool if DM would allow when editing an image to jump to the next one (respecting the filtered and sorted order) without closing the edit windows
and remaining in the actual tab. It would move forward to the next or back to the previous image through the Page-up/down keys or a button next/previous.
When we press/click on it, it would assume as OK (or have a checkbox "set next/previous as cancel") and move to the next/previous one.
These buttons/Keys should work for all tabs. This came up because today I'm fixing a lot of missing categories, if I had that, would save a lot
of time without closing/opening the edit window for every image.
- Franky:
An alternative/complementary option would be to be able to see/edit file details in the right-hand panel of the main image list.
- W81. Select all text in Image details description box
- lucato:
Ctrl+A would work in the description input field (Edit mode) to select all text.
- W145. Shortcut keys for the OK and Cancel buttons
- lucato:
The OK and CANCEL button would have a shortcut keys such as Ctrl+Q (OK) | Ctrl-W (Cancel).
- W152. Spell checker
- Ales Veluscek:
Can you add spell-checker (automatic) to description edit list ? (As I get with firefox)
Image details - Keywords
- W11. Suggestion of more specific terms from CV
- lucato:
Add a "Would you like to be more specific" child-term choice list.
- W12. Taginator-like functionality
- Lingbeek, olandesina:
Adding tags in a way that "Tagger/Taginator" does.
- Franky:
Similar functionality will be possible with the upcoming DeepMeta "Keyword suggestion" tool. This feature will perform 2 related tasks:
- Suggest new related keywords, base on the current keywords present
-
Suggest sets of related keywords (from the CV), such as Age groups, Gender, Composition, Framing, etc.
The user can choose which groups of keywords he wants, and can group them with the upcoming "Series" functionality.
A lot of background work has already been done for this, such as setting up the required servers to assist in the task.
The remaining work involves integration of the functionality and data in the existing DeepMeta user interface.
- W89. Keyword suggestions
- Rhoberazzi:
Will there be some kind of keyword suggestion function, a la ImageManager? (Which is very useful, especially for people not having english as native language).
- W38. Keyword order
- thyme:
Have been wondering about Sort by Status. I usually put my keywords in order of importance through photoshop metadata but have
noticed they are sorted alphabetically in DM. Is there any way to keep the sort order in the order I put them in?
I ask because I wonder if IS is going to change keywording again at some stage to introduce weighting of keywords.
- Mlenny:
Is there a way to sort keywords 'in sort order I entered' them ? if I enter aa, cc, dd as keywords i just can sort in alphabetic order or by status...
I would be perfect to have the sort the way i entered the keywords.. in my opinion.
I think this very useful as there is a certain sort order of terms when i look into the file through the istock webplattform,
and I think it would be cool to have the same sort order like on the istock web...
- thyme:
On editing and adding a keyword it goes on the end of the list.
Is there any way you could add a facility so we can reorder the status of the keywords say by dragging or numbering them?
- Franky:
iStock has confirmed that the order of keywords does not make any difference at all.
I quote Ethan (emeyerson) from iStock:
"If nothing has happened to change your keyword relevance, the terms will remain in whatever order they were added,
but that doesn't matter to the Best Match sort. They all just have the same equal, neutral weighting.
Once buyer behavior starts making some terms more relevant than others, you'll see the order change, but until then,
they're all just equally weighted. It doesn't impact your BM placement to have what you consider to be
your most important term show up first or last. The market determines the actual relevance. Nothing you do or don't do will change it.
This, by the way, is a good thing. All you have to do is add all of the relevant terms (and only the relevant terms) to your file,
and the market does the rest for you."
- W85. Add one or more keywords to selected files
- RollingEarth:
Regarding series of files with similar but subtly different content.
I will typically load 10 files of a series into DM and keyword them with 10 words
common to them all. I will then upload them to get them in the queue.
I then go back and add in the keywords specific to each file, or to subsets of files within the series. (eg lets say I have ten files of a beautiful
blonde but subsets of three of her looking at the camera and smiling and seven of her looking to one side and frowning.)
I'd like to be able to select the files of a subset using Ctrl click, right click on one of them and have the option to add keywords to all
selected files. This would save a lot of time in adding specific keywords to subsets of files.
- lucato:
I'd like to get to add one or more keywords to a selected range of images.
So, it would be cool if I would select more than one image, RMB and select add keywords. It would open a pop-up to add the missing keywords and get to DA them.
- Franky:
The planned bulk-edit feature will make this very easy, but until then, there is a simple work around. Just add a dummy JPG image file to DeepMeta, and
assign it the keyword(s) you want to add to other files. Then use the DeepMeta "Copy & Paste" feature to paste these keywords to the files you like.
- W99. Collaboration functionality
- lucato:
Let's suppose some user/photographer wants to put a guy to DA/upload the images into DM for him.
So, DM would have a kind of an User Account with a password and this user won't have access to the IS password, etc.
The photographer would allow a guy to add images and the datas for uploading withouth getting to see or having access to the other information such
a money and so on. The image tab would have just basic columns. Well something like that, maybe to think for a future version.
- asiseeit:
So would you hide the statistics tab mainly? All I would need is:
1) the ability to add photos, add the description, title, keywords, categories, and model releases,
2) modify keywords for existing photos,
and 3) upload new files and changes (but not delete or disable). Is that do-able, and would there then be a login box when deepmeta is started?
- W144. Find box for keywords
- lucato:
Maybe DM would have a Find tool in the 'Keywords' tab and highlight the text when found.
DeepMeta Keyword Wizard
This topic is about the upcoming integration of the Keyword Wizard functionality right inside DeepMeta.
- W142. Auto-keyword "Vertical" / "Horizontal" / "Square" depending on image file itself
- lucato:
DM would recognize when an image is Horizontal or Vertical and add automatically the correct keyword position (Vertical | Horizontal)
in the Keywords. Of course we would have an option in the preferences to make it active or not (Active as default).
And if we paste (overwrite) keywords from other image, it won't delete this keyword and won't copy one vertical to one horizontal
and vice-versa.
Image details - Categories
- W79. Find box for categories
- lucato:
Maybe DM would have a Find tool (Ctrl+F) and find next in the 'Categories' tab and highlight the text when find.
- W91. Smarter category suggestions
- lucato:
I've noticed that when we have the keywords 'isolated' and 'concept', the highlight suggestion doesn't highlight these categories.
Ratings & comments
- W6. More ratings info + options
- lucato, lucato:
Ratings and Comments: option to group all ratings/comments per image. Alternatively: in the main image window: option to show all ratings/comments for an image
when clicked. Now only Thumb, Title and Description are shown.
- W140. View ratings by one member
- lucato:
In the Ratings & comments tab we have the column "Rated by". So, when I am on an image line, DeepMeta would have an option to click with RMB (Right Mouse Button)
and select "View all ratings by this member". So, it would filter in this tab/screen all ratings by the member that is in the colum "Rated by" from the line I've
picked the RMB.
Besides that, similar to W98, but this one is in the Ratings & comments tab, when we RMB over one image,
in the contextual menu we would also have the option "View all R&C from this file", so when I pick it,
it would show only (filter) all ratings and comments from this image.
Model & property releases
- Franky:
Generally speaking, most requests related to individual files, also apply to Model/Property releases.
The direction for Release-related features will be to have more fields available: model name, birth date, type of release: Property/Model/Talent.
New functionality will allow to filter, sort, add releases to Series etc., all similar to regular files.
Tools
- W138. Remember original sizes
- lucato:
In the Tools tab, in the "Original image dimensions" box DM would have 2 more buttons and one dropdown list.
Let me explain: The buttons would be [Save] and [Delete], plus a dropdown list. So, when I type the the width and height I would hit the SAVE
button and it would add these values WidthXHeight into a dropdown list. Next time I would select this value from the dropdown list and hit "Show Sizes".
If I want to exclude one value from the dropdow list, I would just select it and hit [Delete] button.
If it is too much complicated to add. Maybe just allow DM to leave the latest values entered registered, so next time I open DM the values would be there.
Statistics
- W48. Detailed statistics per image
- thyme:
Would it be possible to select 1 image and see the statistics for that image over the year as above?
- Franky:
iStock API currently doesn't support this.
- W56. Statistics tab doesn't keep its state
- theasis:
If you sort the statistics by clicking on a column in the "Statistics grouped by file status" then switch to another tab and come back to the statistics tab,
the page remembers the order in which the "Status" column was sorted, but all the numbers go back to their original sort order.
- W5. Member statistics
- Chronistin:
Show member overall statistics (downloads, earnings, ratings). Maybe in the side window when no image selected.
- W102. Real download stats
- roomauction:
I would like to see downloads made in a specific time period (can be left current 3 tier split: all dates, 1 month, range from-to).
You do have thing called 'download count' but it shows ALL downloads for files uploaded in this time range.
What I would like to see is files uploads in the range, whenever the files been uploaded. That would help keeping track on progress.
- Franky:
The iStock API, which DeepMeta uses, does provide daily stats info (number of downloads and royalties). So I could add that.
Stats per image per day (has also been requested) are not available.
- W104. Exclusivity estimator
- roomauction:
There could be a exclusive estimator: based on i.e. 3 last months how early contributor is likely to become an exclusive
(providing the acceptance rate is reached at min. 50%).
- W106. Date range for acceptance rate
- roomauction:
Acceptance ratio 'for the date range', not only the cumulative/thencurrent_todate, but 'this months only' or last 3 months.
Keeps morale up when you are climbing up from a low acceptance rate
- W117. Aggregated DL/month
- asiseeit:
It would be real helpful to me to have an average dl/month total on the the statistics page under "Download Count."
(total up avg dl/m divided by total files submitted) That way we could see how productive a month's photos have been by comparing them to other months.
iStockphoto tab-page & fetching/updating
- W15. Edit & delete images from the queue lists
- lucato:
Allow to edit images that are into the New Images box with and Upload queue box in any status.
It would allow to click twice to get to edit the image. This way I don't need to go back to the image tab to edit the image.
- Franky:
Is true: you do have a link to edit, only when there are errors, once all errors resolved: the link to edit is gone.
- funkcanna:
Why is it not possible to delete images from the "new images not in queue" list? This feature would be great!
- W16. Order images in queue lists, and keep their order
- lucato:
In the Upload queue box (iStock tab), it would be cool to get to order the images by dragging and drop.
- davidjmorgan:
If I put a number of photos in the Upload queue in a certain order how can I keep that order?
Presently it seems if I close deepmeta and re-open it the upload queue gets reordered into the order they were intially added to DeepMeta
and you can't drag to re-order them, I have to send them all back and queue them again.
- W18. Better upload pause feedback
- thyme:
I don't know if this has been reported before but the pause upload button does not work when uploading an image to Istock,
it just keeps going until it finishes.
- lucato:
DM would have at iStock tab a CANCEL button to cancel the upload.
Let's suppose I want to abort the retry on the 1st retry, but now a days I just get it by closing and opening DM again
or by pausing, but you need to wait to complete the retry.
- Franky:
The Pause button will not pause any currently uploading image (this is not possible), but will pause after the current one,
leaving any others in the upload queue in place. Maybe I should make it more clear by showing a small message like "Pausing the queue
after currently uploading image", or similar.
Also, I do intend to make a real cancel of uploads possible, effectively aborting any upload in progress.
- W20. Fetch from iStock in background
- lucato:
While doing the quick fetch, DM would allow us to keep working in the images (editing), while doing the Quick Fetch as background.
- W60. Show remaining time for upload
- lucato:
But maybe DM would show up the remaining time to get to upload again when you reach the the upload limit.
This info would show when we click on refresh button at the "Avaiable upload slots".
- olandesina:
What about a counter that lets you know when your next batch of uploads becomes available... like "20 available uploads in 2 days and 5 min"?
- Franky:
Unfortunately not provided by the iStock API.
- W76. Option to not download inactive image data
- lucato:
I've deleted all the 'Purged" image just to make the database lighter, but I think if I do again a full fetch it will bring all them again, am I right?
If it's true, maybe as a suggestion, DM would have a checkbox in options menu to don't download the purged info.
- Mlenny:
I' d like to have a way to delete deactivated or purged images from the deepmeta database,
as i think it`s a waste of database space (and so time for searching). The purged files are also 'just data overhead' in my opinion.
- W94. More status info after fetch from iStock
- MHjerpe:
A feature i would like in the Fetch update dialog the list.. If it could display what have changed.. and an option to turn the on and off.
Like this maybe:
- Fetching list of files from iStockphoto ...
- File nr 4711351 updated: orange sky
- ...views: 113 -> 114
- ...ratings: 3 -> 4
- ...DL: 2 -> 304
- File nr xxxxxx updated: blblblbb
- slobo:
I would like to see new column "Number of Views since last update" so I can monitor which of my files are currently attracting viewers.
- W100. Better video thumbnail handling
- theasis:
When we upload a video file the thumbnail isn't generated until later - maybe days later.
Would it be possible for DM to re-grab the thumbnail for video files if it is currently displaying the blue question mark?
It's also possible to upload a new thumbnail for a video file at a later date...does the API let you know if the thumbnail has changed?
- W147. Holiday mode behavior in combination with PC Shutdown
- lucato:
Franky, I have checked the 'Shutdown computer when finished uploading' and had remaing 1 slot, but in the queue I had 3 files.
So as it was checked to shutdowm, DM should shutdown after upload the last slot avaiable, but it didn't happen.
As I had 3 files in the que DM got into the 'Holiday mode' instead of shuttingdown my computer. I think you need to review it.
If we check to shutdown, as soon DM gets 0 slots, DM should shutdow, if it isn't checked to shutdown, DM gets into 'Holiday mode'.Or DM should have 2 shutdown options:
- Slot mode: When checked Shutdown, it turns off the computer when slots are equal to 0. It doesn't matter if you have more files in the 'Upload Queue' column.
- Holiday mode: When checked Shutdown, it turns off the computer only after uploadind the last image in the 'Upload Queue' column.
- W148. Multi-add to upload queue list
- lucato:
Add to queue into iStockphoto tab would have a button "add all to queue" or it would accept to select more than one at the same time and drag & drop
to the Queue upload side.
Besides moving the selected images from left colum to right, the same way I'd like to retrieve from to 'Upload Queue' and send back
the selected images to the 'Not in Queue'.
- W151. Option setting for Refresh upload slots
- theasis:
I always expect to find the "Also refresh available upload slots" option under the "Options" menu.
Maybe it would save the occasional bit of confusion if it appeared there instead of (or as well as) on the Fetch Statistics dialog.
Find & replace
- W43. Find & replace for keywords
- lucato, lucato:
I'd like to find & replace into keywords too.
Let's suppose I found out that I've typed some wrong keyword such as "desert" instead of "dessert". I would replace them.
The problem I see here is that I may have images with both keywords (the ones I've typed wrong and the correct ones), so FIND would find both keywords/images,
but maybe in the Find & Replace window I would select only the ones I want to change and would click "Replace selected images".
Other issue would be the DA work in a replaced file, it would ask first into its own window to set the DA of the keyword to be replaced before clicking
on "Replace selected images".
- W110. Merge Filter with Find & replace function
- nikitabuida:
Another possible feature could be some sort of merge of 'filter' and 'find and replace'.
I could add 'My cool model Bob.' to descriptions of all photos with that model and then search for 'model Bob'.
Now it is not possible to edit file metadata in 'find and replace' request results.
- W123. Replace Filtered / Selected
- olandesina:
Suggested improvements
- REPLACE FILTERED: If the filter is in action (when I have filtered a group of images) I would like the find/replace work only on those filtered images.
- REPLACE SELECTED: I would like the opportunity of selecting some images in the preview box and having the possibility to click a "replace selected" button.
OS, Installation and configuration
- W4. Database at chosen disk location
- lucato:
Path for database and thumbnails configurable (for backups).
- W8. Preferences for file checkboxes
- lucato:
DM would have in "Preferences" something like "Always allow prints". So, when it is checked, all new images will have the "Allow print" checkbox checked.
- W27. Better uninstall cleanup
- lucato:
When I uninstall DM, it doesn't delete my data folder (Eazign) in the documents & settings.
It should ask if I want to delete it or not, or just inform that by uninstalling DM, it will delete all database.
Lightboxes / Series
- W1. See number of private lightboxes
- tavor:
Being able to see the number of private lightboxes which use your image.
- W22. Show in which lightboxes a file is in
- thyme:
Would it be possible to show which lightboxes our images are listed in? When you look at your lightboxes in Istock it shows you where they are as well.
Perhaps a separate tab along the top would be ideal to avoid clogging the details tab too much.
- Franky:
Will be possible only for your own lighboxes. The iStock API does not give info on which "foreign" lightboxes your file is in.
- W24. Lightbox support
- lucato:
Talking about lightboxes, I'd like that DM would know what LBs I manage, so when I'm editing an image to upload I would have a new
tab called "lightboxes" and I would check what LBs I'd like that this image will get into (the ones I manage).
So, when I upload it and right after getting approved, this image will be into these LBs I've selected.
So, I don't need to wait to get approved to add the lighboxes later.
- W63. Series/Collection feature proposal
- Franky:
Click the link above to read my "Series" proposal: a first take on how this feature could be implemented
- W66. Keyword groups
- theasis:
Another Feature Request: I guess I would call it keyword macros, or keyword sets, or keyword groups.
I have a few recurring themes that I photograph over and over: Scottish castles, mountains, lochs, computer generated objects isolated on white, etc. What I tend to do when keywording the first of a new series of, say, some castle is:
- find the most similar image in my existing portfolio
- copy the keywords
- remove those that aren't appropriate for the new series
- add new keywords that are appropriate for this picture
What I would love to be able to do is define a personal "Scottish castles" keyword group in DM then, when I have some new castle pictures to submit, what I could do is:
- pull down the Keyword Groups menu and select my "Scottish castles" entry
- add new keywords that are appropriate for this picture
If you want to go all-out crazy on making it nice you could let me select all my Scottish Castles pictures and click a "create keyword group" option that would pick out all the keywords that occur in, say, 90% or more of those images and pull all those keywords into my keyword group. But I'm not really asking for anything that fancy.
Or to look at it another way...instead of looking at them as some keyword groups entity, maybe they're a type of dummy image. They don't have an actual image attached and can't be put in the upload queue, but they do appear somewhere on the main Images tab so that I can copy keywords and categories from my "Scottish castles" dummy image to any new actual castle images.
- lucato:
DM would have a "Keywords Database" tab for storing keywords.
In this tab I would create a group of keywords that I use to use a lot and I would give each group a different name and I would call them later
from the "add keywords" pop-up through a dropdown list.
Well, let's suppose I store one group of keywords and give it a name as "Technique".
This group for example would contain the keywords "Macro, color image, isolated".
After doing that, when I'm adding new keywords and I'm in the "Add Keywords pop-up", I would get the "Technique" group I've created from a dropdown list and it would
paste the keywords in the "Enter new keywords" input field.
- Franky:
I have classified this under the "Series" chapter as its description is pretty close to the functionality that Series will offer.
- W116. Model/property release grouping
- JBryson:
Would it be possible to add the ability to put model releases into groupings? I have over 100, and some of the names are hard for me to recall freely.
It would help to be able to put them into groups. I think if there was another field that you could populate with one or two words which describe the shoot,
then you could sort by that field.
Miscellaneous
- W2. Vectors
- kemie, aheinzen:
Vector uploads, Video uploads and Audio uploads
- Franky:
Kemie has requested Vector upload support in the iStock API forum and iStock have responded they will look into it. Please note that only uploading is not supported for these file types. It's perfectly possible to manage these files in DeepMeta (keywords, image links, etc) once they are approved.
- W30. Better offline behavior
- Lingbeek:
If you add an image while offline the program does not read keywords because it cannot communicate with the Istockserver.
It would be nice if it would do this communication when the internet connection is available again or if you could do a reread keywords from file
at a later moment in such a case.
I travel a lot and often I do not have an internet connection available.
- MichaelJay:
I would really appreciate this as I sometimes have some spare time in a train or plane that I would like to use productively.
Being able to do some offline work would really be a benefit - maybe you could keep those images in an "error" state ("not disambiguated") with
a button to allow disambiguation at a later stage.
- W41. Save data into Jpg IPTC
- piskunov, Dreef:
Ability to save updated IPTC data to images. It can be usefull for stock photographers how are not exclusive for istock.
I plan to fill in keywords name and description directly from your software but also want to save this information in JPEG files.
- W46. Resubmit a rejected file
- StanRohrer:
A method in DeepMeta to do a resubmit of a rejected file.
- Franky:
iStock API currently doesn't support this.
- W115. Better dual-monitor support
- lucato:
When working with dual view (2 monitors), it would be interesting if DM would allow us to change the image line in the main view (image tab)
while the Details Windows is opened in the other screen. If we have made any change on it and change the line, it will ask if want to save changes or discard them.
If has no changes, just change the image data in the Detail window.
What I'm trying to acomplish is move to the next image with the Image details opened in the other screen.
I mean, if I had the screens the way you said (Left Hand: Image Details and Rght Hand: Main Window) and if DM allowed me to change between images with both
windows opened, I would select one image, copy part of its description, select another image and paste the description part without needing
to click CANCEL + YES (Are you sure you wanto CANCEL) + Open the new image, paste and OK to save.
So, if DM allowed to move to the next, when I had copied the part from the 1st image and clicked on the new image,
DM would check that it had no changes and just change to the next image data in the Detail window.
- Franky:
Yes, apparently I had understood your explanation, although I wasn't sure.
There are 2 ways that could be accomplished:
- Like you suggested already before, the Image Details window could have Next / Previous buttons, to move through the files in sequence,
without having to go back to the image list each time. This would have the disadvantage that you can only go to Next/Prev image, and not random
- What I meant in my reply with "splitter" is the vertical bar in the main image list window, between the list and the right hand view,
which currently shows the description + some other things. I was referring to a suggestion I made at page 50, to (optionally?) have the details view
(with tabs "General", "Keywords", "Categories" and "Releases") shown in the right hand panel, next to the image list.
I realize this is in fact what you've been explaining in your latest post.
You could put the "splitter" bar between image list and right hand panel to match the border between your 2 monitors.
Your left hand monitor would show the image list, the right hand monitor would show the details, where you could edit.
- lucato:
I agree that the next/previous I had suggested before has the disadvantage that you can't go at random, while the "dual screen/windows opened"
way would allow the random way. IMO the splitter way is great, but as I've mentioned before, I'm not sure if it will stay too much tight for all those info
to work on for those with one screen, unless you add a button or in the preferences a way to pick between pop-up window as nowadays or right-hand lay-out.
By dragging the vertical bar as you've suggested is a good suggestion too, but IMO it wouldn't be so cool once the descriptions is only on the right side and
you can't opt to be on the left, so as my widescreen monitor is on the right side (where I need to see all the columns) and the regular one is on the left,
if I drag the vertical bar will split the table between the monitors from regular (tables from left) to widescreen (Description on right).
So, if you add an option to change the description to show at right or left, this way my LEFT hand monitor would show the DESCRIPTION, the RIGHT hand
monitor would show the IMAGE LIST. Well, something like that.
The two ways would be the the actual details window accepts to be changed when clicking on a line at random in the image tab or the new lay-out @ page50
with the option to pick right/left position.
- W131. Avoid or report spurious duplicate uploads and missing model releases
- Franky:
As described in F.A.Q. item #F10, duplicate uploads can happen under extremely bad network or server conditions.
DeepMeta cannot detect this due to the nature of the iStock API interface.
I will also try to come up with some work-around. I'm thinking along the lines of fetching the free upload slots inbetween uploads and derive from this
data whether the upload might have been accepted or not. There are a few caveats however, such as the fact that the upload slots also change independently,
as new slots become available.
As soon as I receive reports of such network/server conditions, I will enable a Popup message at startup of the program, and will disable uploads for that period.
- W109. File/portfolio content manager capability
- Mlenny:
If the original path of a file is editable in DeepMeta you can take images from one PC to another without hassle.
With this solution you even go one step further to have a kind of local 'content manager' of your original files you uploaded.
- W135. Manage image files with Copy/Move from/to folders
- lucato:
-
Would it be possible to DM move (cut) a file from one folder to another folder after being uploaded?
We would inform in the options the MOVE PATH "FROM:" and "TO:". So, After I press the button "add new images" which
will use the path FROM, and after the image be uploaded and gets the status Pending, DM would move the file to the
setted path as "TO:". I mean, cut it from the folder setted in "FROM:" and paste in the folder "TO:".
Let's suppose I get one folder called "ToSend" and other "Approval_Line". I would set DM "FROM: ToSend" and "TO: Approval_Line".
-
DM would have a new tab called "New Images" where we would set a path to inform DM where it should retrieve the images.
All images placed in this folder automatically get into DM and get the status ToEdit. After editing the image,
it gets the stats ToUpload and moves to Image Tab. After that, follows the item 1 above. I don't know programming,
but maybe this Idea would make DM get slower to generete thumbnails and refresh all the time to check if there is
some new file in the folder, unless use it from Windows.
- lucato:
DM would have an option for managing files and folders. So, let's suppose I got in my HD the folders:
- ToGo - Images to be sent
- Queue - Images waiting for approval
- Sent - Images approved
- Rejected - Images rejected
DM would have options to set the folders/paths:
- Add image Folder [Browse]: C:/IMAGES/ToGo
- Uploaded Folder [Browse]: C:/IMAGES/Queue
- Sent image Folder [Browse]: C:/IMAGES/Sent
- Reject image Folder [Browse]: C:/IMAGES/Rejected
- Unfinished Folder [Browse]: C:/IMAGES/Unfinished
So, as soon as...:
- 1) ... I add the new images and they get uploaded into the iStock, and the image into DM gets the status "Pending", DM would move my files from the folder "ToGo" (Add image Folder) to the folder "Queue" (Uploaded Folder);
- 2) ... the image into DM gets the status "Active", DM would move my files from the folder "Queue" (Uploaded Folder) to the folder "Sent" (Sent image Folder);
- 3) ... the image into DM gets the status "Rejected", DM would move my files from the folder "Queue" (Uploaded Folder) to the folder "Rejected" (Reject image Folder);
- 4) ... the image into DM gets the status "Process", DM would move my files from the folder "Queue" (Uploaded Folder) to the folder "Unfinished" (Unfinished Folder);
- W136. Option to work with the original JPG instead of copying
- JBryson:
I was under the impression that DM saved the file location, not a copy of the file itself. There have been times where
I've noticed a change I want to make to a file (blurring copyright info in the background, etc), and have opened the file
in Photoshop through DM...then I made the changes and uploaded the file. Everytime, the file has been rejected for the reasons
I thought I had corrected.
Is the only way to make corrections to an image after importing it to DM to delete from DM, make the revision, then re-import?
This is difficult for a series that needs a correction on a few of the images.
- Franky:
This could be made a setting in DeepMeta, to not copy the files but work with the original one. Optional, because many people
move/copy files as part of their workflow, and I don't want to receive endless reports from people complaining that the
DM upload doesn't work, because it can no longer find the JPG file to upload.
A nice feature would also be to have a "refresh" function in DM, where you e.g. rightclick on a file and select "refresh original JPG".
This would re-import the JPG, leaving the keywords/categories/etc. unchanged. Of course, this option would only be available for
files that have not yet been uploaded.
- W137. Interfacing to 3rd parties, such as TinEye.com
- lucato:
I'm not sure if you saw the thread about TinEye.com, I don't know how they will work in the future, if it will be free or so on,
but you could contact them (tineyefeedback at ideeinc dot com) and DM would have in preferences the login to tineye and when we are on a image row,
we would click with RMB and select "Check image in TinEye". So, as soon we pick this option in the contextual menu, DM would open the browser with
the TinEye serch results page of the selected image. Woundn't that be cool?
- W146. Multi-user capability
- lucato:
DM mananging several portfolios with one person or more. That is like multiple-user accounts, but not from Windows and yes from DM
where I manage several portfolios from one DM instance.
- W155.

- W34. Invalid password reporting
- Chronistin:
I recently changed my istock password, but forgot to change it in DM.
When I tried an update, the window just said "0 files updated". I think a "couldn't log in" message would be helpful for the forgetful like me.
- Franky:
The iStock API does not appear to give an error when the credentials are wrong, it just returns an empty response.
From v1.2 Beta1 onwards, I add a hint to the error message that this may be due to bad password.
- W3. OS X support
- olandesina, & many others):
Mac OS X support
- Franky:
An OS X version is now available.
- W61. Linux support
- theasis:
Although I use windows for Photoshop (and now for DM), everything else I do is on linux.
It would be great to have a linux version of DM. I'll be very happy to be a linux tester.
- Franky:
There are no more plans have a Linux version of DeepMeta.
- W112. Support new Audio categories
- lucato:
DeepMeta needs to fix the categories for audio files. They're different from the images. Nowadays when I click to edit an audio file it shows image
categories instead of audio categories.
- Franky:
Has been implemented in v1.4 Beta 1.
- W103. Highlight top 3 chosen categories
- roomauction:
Adding more than 3 categories result in people thinking you can inject more than 3 using Istock API...
would be nice to select the 'top 3' as those which will go online.
You could still select more than 3, so you can choose the best fitting once taking a last look on the selected i.e. 5, but
please mark the top 3 to clearly show what goes online.
- Franky:
Has been implemented in v1.3 Beta 1.
- W83. Foreign language keywording
- Chronistin:
Keywording in general: When keywording on-site, I can use foreign language keywords and get a translation on the spot. DM does not do this at the moment.
- hatman12:
Please add a language selection dropdown list to the keyword entry window. Some keywords have a different meaning in UK English than in US English.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.4.4
- W127. Avoid gateway timeout when fetching data for large portfolios
-
With my portfolio of several thousands of files it's impossible lately to fetch my file data from iStock. Ever since around beginning of July 2008.
I get a network error "Gateway timeout". Fetching data for individual files or fetching all with the "Refresh all data" checkbox ticked does work.
Is there another work-around?
- Franky:
Fixed in v1.3 Beta 4. iStock has changed the interface to fetch images in smaller chunks.
- W153. Jump to page with Rejection reason / Resubmit in browser
- lucato:
I'd like to right click on images with the "Reject" status into DM and get to select in the contextual menu "View in Web Browser -
Reject Reason". So, it would link to http://www.istockphoto.com/resubmit_rejected_file.php?RejectedFileID=000000.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 3
- W139. Set image type before upload (digital, scan, ...)
- theasis:
I was uploading some scans of old negatives today, and so I found that I can't set the source media type through DM.
(Or can I? Did I miss an option somewhere?) It's trivial to change it through the web site after uploading, but would the API allow this option to be added?
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W120. Update model/property release for pending image
- slobo:
DM does not upload MR via "Send Updates To Istock" if added after initial upload. Would that be possible?
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W65. Counters for both Queue lists
- olandesina:
Would be nice to have a counter for the images added to the Q and the ones that are to be uploaded.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W128. Names of Model/Property releases in preview panel
- Répasi:
Can you show the names of the attached Model/Property releases in the right hand preview panel?
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W129. Edit image from Ratings & comments list
- lucato:
At the Ratings & Comments tab, it would be cool if DM would allow us to click twice on the image (line) and get to edit it as we do in the tab image.
I mean, sometimes you can receive a comment about something wrong in the description/keywords and so on and you can edit right away instead of having to go
back to the tab image and search for the image in question to fix it.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W69. Add new tags (user-tags), not in the CV
- Lingbeek:
Deepmeta does not accept keyphrases that are not listed in the CV.
Would it be possible to integrate the "ADD" function that is available on the website for such issues into Deepmeta instead of keeping
the keywords listed in yellow?
- Whiteway:
Now, if I want to add a new tag, for my 'personal use', can I do this directly with DM? It hasn't worked this morning.
I've had to add my Italian alder and Alnus cordata through iStock's image edit process.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W150. Replace file
- lucato:
An option with the right-click to 'Replace the Source' only when the image status is as ToEdit, ToUpload or QueuedforUpload.
This way you would replace the way you want to. Now we don't have this feature yet, you need to add a new image,
copy the data from the previous one and delete the old one.
Make sure to re-generate the thumbnails as well.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W149. View in browser context menu behavior
- lucato:
When image status is 'ToUpload' or 'QueuedForUpload'* the contextual menu item, the main item 'View in web browser' could be inactive as the sub-items
and not only the sut-items.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.3 Beta 1
- W78. Check upload limit before starting upload
- lucato:
Talking about reaching limit, I've noticed that when I have reached it and try to upload, DM doesn't inform right away the
error 4042 - "You have hit the uploads limit".
I mean, DM starts to upload anyway and keeps retrying (3 times).
I don't know if it is possible to DM inform 1st that you've reached the limit instead of sending the image and keep trying.
Only after the 3 tries DM gets to show the error 4042.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 4.
- W118. Format of % in Totals bar with 1 decimal space
- Whiteway:
Totals bar: might the % totals stretch to 1 decimal place? At the moment, 0.6% becomes 1%?
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1.
- W82. Filter or go to file ID
- lucato:
If I type the ID# in the 'Filter' tool, it would select/jump to the ID# image instead of filtering this only image.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1. Entering a file ID in the filter box, will filter by file ID, and will show only the file
with that ID. Note that a new item, W134 has been added, for having the option to
jump-to / select the image, instead of filtering.
- W121. Keyboard shortcuts to go to start and end of list
- lucato:
When on the image tab. lets suppose I get selected one image on the middle of the list, so, I'd like to type Ctrl+Home and the selection goes to the Top
of the list (the selection moves to the first image) and if I type Ctrl+End the selection goes to the last image.
- Franky:
Since you can only select full rows in DeepMeta, as opposed to single cells in Excel, wouldn't it be more logical to just use "Home" and "End" buttons?
In excel, when you press "Home", it stays on the same row, but jumps to the left hand cell. That's why they need "Ctrl-Home" to go to cell 1:1.
I usually compare with the regular file explorer in Windows, because it's similar to the DeepMeta list, and they just use "Home" and "End".
- lucato:
I agree that would be more logical to use "Home" and "End", maybe the Crtl+Arrow UP/Down too. Actually home/end are the best way.
The Ctrl combination with home/end was because I'm used with spreadsheets in Excel. hehehe. You have mentioned you use to compare with File Explorer in Windows,
it accepts both ways, with and without Ctrl.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1. Pressing the Home or Ctrl-Home key while the focus is on the image list,
will move the selection to the first row in the image list. Similar for the End and Ctrl-End key: moves to last item in list.
- W72. Enforce Copyright Name and Email to be filled out
- Ladida, PictureLake:
When i upload an image through DeepMeta and after i add keywords through website for a reason, on save it appears the following:
"Errors were encountered:
- Copyright Name is a required field.
- Copyright Email is a required field.
Please fix all errors to continue."
- Franky:
I will enforce these fields somehow.
The situation is a bit strange, in that iStock apparently does not take this information at image upload.
It probably extracts the copyright info from your online iStock profile data at that stage.
However, when you update image info, iStock does demand the copyright info to be supplied. I have no idea why it works that way.
In any case, this is the reason why in some cases you will have valid copyright data and sometimes not,
in case you have not filled out the copyright fields in DeepMeta.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1: the copyright name and email are demanded before any communication with the iStockphoto
servers will take place.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1:
- When user adds and image to DeepMeta, or fetches/updates/uploads file data from/to iStockphoto, the Options
dialog will popup if no username, password, or copyright name and email have been specified.
- The Image detail dialog now shows the 3 copyright field contents: name, email and URL, and allows editing them.
A link "Get from defaults" allows the user to populate the copyright fields for a file from the default values in
the Options settings.
- Note that when a new file is added, the copyright fields for that file are defaulted to the values specified in the Options settings.
This has always been the case, and has not changed.
- The 3 copyright fields can now be added to the image list as 3 separate columns.
- Files with empty copyright name or email will now be flagged as having an error.
- W13. Easier add-to-queue
- lucato:
In the image tab, the Right Mouse Click would have the option "Add to upload queue".
- lucato:
Add to queue into iStockphoto tab would have a button "add all to queue" or it would accept to select more than one at the same time and drag & drop
to the Queue upload side.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1: a right-click menu option has been added: "Move to Upload queue", enabled for all files
which have status "ToUpload" or "ToUploadRelease". Also possible for multiple selected files.
- W71. Filter whole word only
- Lingbeek:
It would be be nicer if there would be a "whole words only" checkbox or something like that.
- RollingEarth:
One problem I have found is that when I search my port in DM for files with the keyword "oil" it returns several files that aren't
keyworded with "oil" and which don't show up when I search my port online using all the possible "oil" interpretations.
- Franky:
The reason is that DM searches in keywords, as well as all assigned terms.
E.g. the keyword "tweezer", can be assigned to the term "Eyebrow Tweezers (Toiletries)".
A search for "oil" would come up with this file, since "oil" is part of that text.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1: A "whold words" checkbox was added to the Image list filter options.
- W124. Correct the preliminary Upload date TZ
- theasis:
Last night I uploaded an image just after midnight. The webpage says I uploaded on 31st July and DM says I uploaded on 1st August.
Presumably (??) DM is showing me the upload date based on local time rather than iStock server time. That's fine - I don't much care which way it works.
But it wasn't what I expected - I was assuming that DM would show the same info as the iStock web page - so I just wanted to mention it in case it
is a (very trivial) bug rather than a feature.
- Franky:
Well, the next time you'll fetch data from iStock, the date will be updated with the same datestamp that iStock has assigned to it,
so there should be no consistency problem.
Having said that, you are correct that DeepMeta uses the local time to assign a temporary date, and I guess it's true that I'd better use the Calgary date for that.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1.
- W47. Column with file name
- lucato:
I think it would be cool if DM would have a colum with the name of the file.
So, when I add an image, it would keep the file name e.g.: "xmas.jpg". Maybe it would be useful for future searches in the DVDs backp-ups.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1.
- W113. Accept quotes in imported keywords
- joeygil:
I think it would be great if the program could accept quotes in the keywords.
One of the agencies I submit to requires quotes to separate phrases. So either I make a 2 copies of the files,
or reimport the keywords manually.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1.
- W10. Non-CV tags in different color
- lucato:
In the keywords, DeepMeta could show in another color the tags that doens't belong to the CV as it shows in iStock.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 1. Custom tags now shown in blue panel instead of green.
- W73. Auto-upload bot / Holiday mode
- Nemo1024:
I thought of a new feature for DM: automatic upload from queue.
DM should have an option that would allow it to automatically check for free upload slots, say once an hour.
If a slot is available, it could then (optionally) send an image from the upload queue.
It would be very helpful in a situation, when I go on holiday. I could then prepare a batch of files beforehand, let the PC run and make use of all upload slots.
Currently, all my upload slots during the holidays are wasted.
- Franky:
Implemented in v1.2 Beta 4.
