first time use of DeepMeta

Switch to Mac OSX version
  • DeepMeta needs access to the internet in order to communicate with the iStockphoto and DeepMeta servers. It's important to configure any firewall or anti-virus scanner you may have, to allow DeepMeta to access networking resources.
  • Below is an example screen for the Microsoft OneCare Firewall, but of course, your configuration may be different, depending on any Firewall software you may have installed, such as Norton security, etc.
  • At start up, a small panel is shown with current software version and a short text with initialization progress info.
  • Once started, you are presented the main program window, currently still mostly empty.
  • Note 2 important sections in the program, "Main MENU" and "TAB pages": the "Main menu", giving access to most of the functionality in DeepMeta. The "TAB pages" allow you to select one of the working pages by clicking the appropriate "tab". E.g. if you want to manage your Model or Property releases, click the tab named "Releases" to activate the corresponding page. This page will contain a list of your releases and optionally a number of dedicated buttons to manage that list.
  • As a first step, select in the main menu: Options | Main options. The Options window will pop up, allowing you to configure DeepMeta. Enter your iStockphoto username and password. You may use the email address you registered with at iStockphoto instead of your username. Note that these credentials will be stored in an encrypted format and that your iStockphoto password is exchanged with the iStockphoto servers only, through secure SSL encryption (More on privacy). At this stage, you can test your iStockphoto login credentials with the Test button.
  • If you'd like to manage your keywords in a different language than US English, select the appropriate language in the "Language for keywording" drop-down list. All keywords will be fetched from the iStockphoto server in that language. Additionaly, when entering new keywords in DeepMeta, these will be interpreted in the selected language. Note that this can give different results, even for languages such as "US English" and "UK English". E.g. entering the keyword "shirt" in "UK English" mode will result in the term "Shirt", but in "US English" mode will result in "Button Down Shirt", which is a different thing.
  • Now you are ready to fetch your portfolio details from the iStockphoto servers: click the "Next" button to proceed with the Getting Started manual.
